Baby Grand, in Washington Square Park

Pianist, Washing Sq Park
Photo by myself in Washington Square Park.

A pianist performed outdoors in Washington Square Park.

This was on a Sunday, and people were enjoying the weather. I don't recall what the pianist was playing, perhaps Chopin?

I never know what I will encounter in Washington Square Park. For whatever reason, it seems this is the location for music. Sometimes there will be a small jazz band. I've seen upright pianos, too.

Apologies for the skipped day and late post, today.

Mark has been going through some health issues, and I came down with a cold. No fun. Plus, we're going through some dreary weather here.

The other day the police arrested a young man who was planning to bomb the Federal Reserve Bank. I don't think he got beyond the planning stages, but it was a startling announcement, coming on a typical day like any other.

Happy Friday, everyone!

I read about that terrorist incident in the paper. Scary stuff. always nice with music in the parks. Don't think we have this piano-trend in Sweden yet.

How do they get that piano out there? Is it for anyone to use if they know how to play?

Hope Mark is okay, and that you are feeling better.
I see this piano player every day, he's channeling the ghost of Liberace!

My goodness Kitty, NYC is never, ever dull. Awful news about the potential bomb incident. That's really ambitious shifting a baby grand around!
May you and Mark be better again very soon, and may the sun shine :)

I like that, a piano in the open air. The sound is so different then.

This is Colin Huggins. I did a story on him in 2010.
You can see it here: http://newyorkdailyphoto.com/nydppress/?p=1212

At the time, he was music director for the Joffrey Ballet. He has numerous pianos stored around NYC. This baby grand is assembled and disassembled every time he plays and rolled out on dollies. And, no, the piano is not for others to play. Colin is a street performer and this is his livelihood.

Chopin's etudes are very nice. I have them here.

Kitty I hope you and Mark will be both feeling fine soon. I love what Colin does with his piano, neat idea. Oddly I was in York, UK a few weeks back and there is a chap who busk's with an upright piano, its on wheels rather than casters.

Imagine finding a baby grand in a park and someone playing it well - aaah!
Good to catch up with you and your blog again, Kitty!
